SU2

Who We Are

Swing Unlimited Community Big Band, affectionately known as SU2, is the major gateway for musicians of all ages and abilities into the Swing Unlimited Big Band Group.

The purpose of SU2 is to provide all the necessary support, teaching, guidance and experience for personal musical development in a Big Band environment. The objective is to improve and enhance players understanding & appreciation of – as well as their technical performance skills in playing – big band music. This is achieved through regular (weekly) rehearsals, workshops & “masterclasses” as well as live public performances. (Performances range from concerts, charitable events, carnivals, fetes and other outdoor and indoor events, all of which are usually open to the public. SU2 also perform for private functions.)

Musicians within SU2 range from adults that have not played for some time following their early music education to the younger generation wishing to gain additional experience alongside their current music education. Technical standard / experience ranges from past professional musicians to relative beginners.

Rehearsals

Yep SU2 rehearses

SU2 rehearse once each week for people to gain experience and improve their technique and skills as musicians. This includes learning about, understanding and practicing playing scales, chords, rhythm, phrasing, articulation, dynamics, structure and style. Rehearsals are always relaxed and informal and most of all, FUN. They are also open to the public - if you're interested to see how a group like this prepares the musical material ready for performance, by all means just come along (there's plenty of seating, and the bar will be open!)
